Ala o le Moana | Pacific Strategy

Translated University of Auckland's first Pacific Strategy into a meaningful visual narrative and a flexible template for future university strategic publications.

The University of Auckland's Pacific Strategy is a framework for advancing Pacific excellence through leadership, education, research, and meaningful community partnerships.

The document strongly emphasis on the frigate bird metaphor and the vastness of the Pacific Ocean which is the inspiration I used to develop the visual narrative. The image of the frigate bird soaring above the ocean on the front cover serves as a central motif, symbolising strategic foresight, freedom from limitation, and a commitment to discovery. These ideas are reinforced through the use of the University’s core blue colour palette and a carefully curated photography style that weaves together ocean imagery, Auckland landscapes, and Pacific culture and values.

Beyond the strategy itself, this layout was built to serve as a flexible template for similar university strategic initiatives, helping ensure consistency, clarity, and long-term brand alignment.
